Common Features

Features  •  Multiple Drive Systems  •  Pivot Style Roll Bending

All Machine Concepts Gen III levelers share the following features:

  • Mechanical screw jacks on each corner position the upper and lower frames for roll module lift. Provides very rigid alignment between upper and lower bolsters.
  • Hydraulic actuators are used for entry penetration and roll bending. Hydraulic actuators provide overload protection with safety relief valves and lend themselves well to dynamic adjustments.
  • A self contained integrated power unit is provided for the hydraulic actuators.
  • Work roll assemblies are modular units. Provides easy removal for cleaning and service.
  • Automatic calibration, the leveler calibrates itself extremely accurately with the push of a button
  • Automatic setup based on material parameters. Just enter thickness, yield, width, and relative shape and the leveler will adjust itself to the proper setup.
  • Very informative user friendly display screens and easy to operate controls.
  • Pivot style lower roll bending provides aggressive bending on entry end feathers out to straight exit rolls, flat strip exits from straight rolls. Exit geometry stays constant when changing roll shape or entry penetration.

Leveler Drive Systems

Machine Concepts has several drive systems available and they each have their merits depending on the application. Some applications require a combination.

  • All U-Joint drive from pinion box. Unique feature: Rolls can be removed without disconnecting U-joint drive shafts.
  • Upper roll drive with direct coupled pinion (no U-joints). Used as assist drive for various applications.
  • Pull roll drive: Adds tension to the strip which improves leveling. Provides tension zone for the AutoFlat shape sensing.
  • Upper and lower pinion drives (all roll driven cassette)

Pivot Style Roll Bending

  • Roll bending is aggressive on entry end and feathers out to straight exit rolls, flat strip exits from straight rolls.
  • Exit geometry stays constant when adjusting roll shape or entry penetration, not necessary to re-adjust exit penetration after making entry adjustments, very operator friendly.
  • Better load and contact distribution on backup bearings even when roll bending, longer bearing life.

Options and Configurations

Numerous options are available to tailor your leveler to your exact needs, the following is a partial list of options available:

  • Open Bypass: Lowers lower work rolls and raises upper work rolls from pass line. Great for process lines for when leveler is not used
  • 5 high and 6 high roll configurations and chrome work rolls for surface critical material
  • Speed capabilities up to 2000 FPM
  • Tables, guides, feed rolls, and other threading aids
  • Off line cassette opener
  • Cassette exchange systems
  • Parting & cropping shears
  • Roll cleaning systems
